In all walks of life
we often find out what works and reiterate. This is especially
true in all forms of photography, figuring out what angles, settings
and lighting tends to work best for us and sticking with them. In that
process of repetition, creativity can easily be lost and photographers
often slip into just buying more gear to allow them new angles. But
what about the new with the old? The above shot is something I'd only
done once before, and a rare technique for action sports. The image is
a six shot panoramic stitched together. Because it was all shoot in
telephoto it gives the image different depth than zooming out and
cropping would have done, as well as giving a larger final image.
When shooting a panoramic in action like this it's
important to shoot a little wider than you might imagine. Keeping the
camera perfectly level is impossible without a tripod and later on
cropping will need to happen. In a horizontal panoramic like this it's
also best to shoot vertically, and you must also shoot everything in
all manual so exposure and white balance match while stitching.
