Kern River Festival!

Always a fun one, hope to see you there. Camping at the park sounds like a lot more fun than having everyone spread out up the river. The official statement and details about it:
     April 15-17, 2011 - Kernville, CA

Come kick off the 2011 whitewater festival season with us! Now in our 47th year, we’re expanding our format to include Live Music (Sweetwater String Band), Gear Swap, a Standup Paddle Boarder-Cross, and a Film Festival (WildWater, Frontier, misc shorts). Back this year is the wildly popular Hooligan B.Y.O.B Race--as much fun to watch as it is to race! Other events on the program include Brush Creek Extreme Slalom & Downriver Races complete with waterfalls, slides, a great granite amphitheater for spectator viewing.  The traditional TJ Slalom & Wild Water races will be held in Riverside Park in downtown Kernville on Sunday; there is sure to be plenty to keep you entertained as you hang out on the banks of the mighty Kern.
FREE Riverfront Camping with amenities to all registrants, $10 for the whole weekend for all others! In an effort to promote a communal experience that lasts through the evening hours, Frandy Campground has been rented out to serve as camping & entertainment headquarters for the festival! Conveniently located on the Kern River, in downtown Kernville (opposite shore as Riverside Park), Frandy Campground has bathrooms and showers, with campsites at the water’s edge. It will serve as the central location for this year’s After Party.
Saturday Night Events at Frandy Park will include :

Outdoor screening of WildWater & Frontier, other shorts
Live music from Sweetwater String Band
BBQ Dinner & Beer Garden (Kern River Brewing Co)
Playback of the Day’s Events Video
Silent Auction

** All Frandy campers need to obtain wristbands from one of our registration booths (Riverside Park, Frandy or Brush Creek)**

Be sure not to miss the equipment demonstrations and free demos available over the weekend from some of our sponsors like Image Surf Standup Boards and Jackson Kayak!

Kernville Whitewater Park Project Fundraisers

In September of 2010, work began on Riverside Park Project; a community effort to improve the park in downtown Kernville.  A component of this project is enhancing whitewater recreation features in the park, improving put-in and take-out areas as well as creating general use access areas near the river’s edge.  A grant from U.S. Forest Service was awarded to assist in the permitting and design phase; this grant combined with an early round of private fundraising has already netted in over $35,000 for the project. A first draft of the design and more info can be found at KernvilleRiversidePark.com

Gear Swap Saturday and Sunday @ 1-3 pm, Riverside Park. If you stay with your gear and sell it yourself, you keep 75% of the sale and 25% will be taken as donation. If you prefer to leave it to our staff to sell, 100% of the sale will be accepted as donation.  Choice is yours, and so are the benefits!
