Well it's been a while. The
California season has been strange. Lots of Dinkey and Kaweah. Flows up
and down all over the place. The same could be said for this website.
One day I got a call from my host (GoDaddy) and they said they had just
upgraded the server my website was hosted on. Great. There would be an
$80 fee to migrate me data, or I could do it myself. There are a lot of
great things about living in Three Rivers. The internet speed is not
one of them. I felt that upgrading servers because of obsolescence was
part of what I was paying $100 a year for, and didn't deserve the extra
migration cost. With no solution at hand and too much kayaking to be
done, I simply canceled my account rather than pay for the next year
that was due in a week anyways.
Now the site is live again. Hopefully it has all been uploaded
correctly over the last week. If you see any problems please let me
know, at d_mcquoid@hotmail.com
A few people have inquired about sending some $ to help fund the site.
My ego and redneck sufficiency want to say no, yet it's probably in my
best interest to be pragmatic and say yes. My financial situation is
not healthy enough for $100 a year to be completely trivial, hopefully
one day it will be. Rather than spam the site with ads, I'd say if
you've found the site useful for beta, missed it while it was
down, and feel inclined donations paypal'd to d_mcquoid@hotmail.com
would not be rejected.
Regardless of donations, hopefully my laptop will be up and running
this summer as we're on the road and I'll be able to complete some new
river descriptions from the 2016 season; lower North Fork Kaweah, Upper
South Fork Kaweah, Lower Clover Creek and Upper Marble Fork of the
Kaweah. Until then it's going to be busy so back to real life!
Thanks to Gareth Tate for showing me this line a few years ago, on the
last glorious boof of the East Fork Kaweah. Here is the Ghostface
himself, Middly Tilghman.
