The NEX-5R seems like a nice upgrade to the NEX-5N. The controls seem to be a considerable improvement with one more dial up top and a function button. I would love to see an AF-ON/AF-Lock button on the rear, but Sony is probably saving this for the more expensive and slightly larger upcoming NEX-6. Thankfully Sony moved the on/off button to a control around/in front of the shutter release just like the NEX-7, their dSLRs and Nikon too. Maybe some day Canon will figure out that users want to turn their camera on or off without taking their eye from the viewfinder.
The 5R has some features that some will find interesting. The addition of phase detect auto-focus (pdaf) is a welcome one and helps explain why Sony's lenses were a bit on the expensive side. They'd been planning this all along. Unfortunately all the pdaf sensors are in the middle of the frame, negating the usefulness of it for my taste. When I track an object (kayak) I prefer to track on the edge of the frame so there is somewhere for the subject to go in the captured image. That said pdaf sensors are the way of the future, just like EVFs, but the technology or implementation is not quite there yet. The most interesting addition to the camera is not the wi-fi, but the ability to add apps to the camera. If Sony makes it possible for third parties to add apps, we have a camera that marks the wave of the future.
Will I upgrade/downgrade? Unless the buffer is considerably larger than the 5N and at least comparable to the NEX-7, no. It's a nice upgrade, but not earth shattering for serious photographers shooting raw. Unless the apps are amazing and prove me wrong.

The rumored new lenses:
16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS
Unless Sony did something amazing here and defied the laws of physics this lens just isn't that exciting. Pancake lenses don't perform as well as their counterparts and the 18-55mm is not exactly a stunner. The NEX-5's are not pocket cameras with the eye piece attached, nor is the NEX-7. Maybe if you live in cold environments and wear a jacket a lot, but if you live somewhere like California you just aren't throwing these in your pocket. So making this lens a pancake is pointless to me.

35mm f/1.8 OSS
A 35mm on a APS sensor comes out to 50mm and 50mm is a pretty boring focal length. This one excites me almost as much as the 16-50mm pancake. Not even considering buying either.

10-18mm f/4.0 OSS
If it has good performance this will be a nice addition to the NEX lineup. I'm not a super-wide shooter but many are. This should make a great light landscape package with the NEX-7 if it's optically able to serve the camera well.
